Preliminary exercise: TikTok Music video

 1) State the song you have chosen for your preliminary exercise

Kaytranda - Gray area

2) Choose at least three music videos similar to your concept and watch a clip or more from each. Make bullet-point notes on everything you watch, commenting on camerawork, editing and mise-en-scene.

  • Usher-no limit- camerawork - full body shots Close up an extreme close ups and even  medium body shots. smooth transitions a in editing and fast pace editing  but it flows together really smoothly.   the costume in this music video are street  clothing for the backup dancers but  very designer and luxury for the main artist such as Usher.
  • Chris brown- fine China - Camera work full body shots Close up an extreme close ups and even  medium body shots. smooth transitions a in editing and fast pace editing use full body shots for parts of the choreography. as for mise en scene  the costume is very gang based as Chris browns group are wearing  new York loose mobster clothing whereas The other gang is wearing  triad  and east Asian   clothing as for setting they use  the bar and potentially the parking lot of the bar?
  • Chris brown party- The  - Camera work full body shots Close up an extreme close ups and even  medium body shots. smooth transitions a in editing and fast pace editing use full body shots for parts of the choreography. They  smooth editing using things like jump cuts  they all wear the same similar street clothing they also use  the abandoned parking lot for the setting and props are things such as jewellery

3) Write a short music video treatment for your extract (this is basically a script for your TikTok music video). You can find an example of a treatment here. If you are making your real coursework then feel free to use the treatment from your summer project.

The Video focuses on the first band member of the Clique called Jordan as we  see the 3 aspects of his life  the Artist/ rapper  the civilian/choreographer and the Businessmen. In the music video we get to see what  he odes in  his normal civilian life such as relaxing and working out. The Artist we get to see him  be happy and excited about his jewellery and prepare to rap. The businessmen we get to see him  travelling around  going to work and  answering business calls / and coming up with ideas.

4) Write a shot list containing EVERY shot you plan to film AND additional shots to create flexibility when editing (in a music video you will find you need FAR more shots than you think, particularly close-ups). These additional shots can be close-ups, alternative angles or something more creative. I advise using a simple table on Microsoft Word/Google Docs to set out your shot list - you can find an example here (this is from narrative filmmaking but the same format can be used for any video project).
